The groundwork for this moment was laid months ago. Back in March 2025, the lapse of a related license, General License 8L, restricted financial transactions tied to Russian energy. That move alone contributed to a measurable decline in Russian seaborne crude export volumes, as banks and shipping companies grew increasingly cautious about touching anything connected to Russian oil.

Global oil supply chains are already strained by continued disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most critical chokepoints for energy shipments worldwide. Roughly a fifth of the world’s oil passes through that narrow waterway on any given day.

The revised sanctions approach reflects a broader strategic posture that has been building for some time. The Trump administration initiated this campaign to systematically constrict the financial channels that Russia uses to monetize its energy exports.

For crypto investors specifically, the dynamic is worth watching closely. Periods of tightening monetary policy and rising inflation have historically driven increased interest in non-sovereign assets. As institutional interest in $XRP spot ETFs continues to grow, the total amount of $XRP held in ETFs has reached 881.52 million.

According to current data, total assets under management (AUM) has risen to $1.28 billion, while the amount of $XRP locked in ETFs represents approximately 0.88% of the total supply. The $XRP price, meanwhile, has fallen 1.22% in the last 24 hours, trading at $1.42.

According to Week 20 data, spot $XRP ETFs saw net inflows of 38.34 million $XRP. In dollar terms, this inflow is worth approximately $54.44 million. During the same period, total inflows reached 34.05 million $XRP, while outflows were only 439.6 thousand $XRP. Thus, the net total inflow was recorded as 33.61 million $XRP.

Looking at ETFs individually, the largest weekly inflow was 13.6 million $XRP in Franklin Templeton’s XRPZ fund.
